JAMMU, Jan 21: A meeting of Water Works (PHE) Employees Association, Division Akhnoor was held here today at Akhnoor under the chairmanship of Shiv Kumar Sharma, the State president of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC).
After a meeting, a delegation led by Shiv Kumar Sharma, Birbal Sharma- President local unit and Ram Krishan-general secretary of PHE Division Akhnoor met the Executive Engineer Akhnoor and submitted a charter of demands.
During meeting Sharma said that there are about 4000 employees in the Akhnoor Division which consists of 6 Sub-Divisions who maintain water supply in vast area of Kot Bhalwal, Chhamb, Akhnoor, Chowki Choura etc but it was very unfortunate that these employees are not getting their salary regularly. The Government has already provided funds for their salary but the Division failed to submit the salary vouchers of these employees.
Shiv Kumar further said that there are about 400 water stations in Akhnoor Division and all these stations are in dilapidated condition. The field staff who work day and night have not been provided any heating arrangements like charcoal, the torches and rain coats. It is matter of grave concern that the funds meant for field works are being spent for renovation of offices.
Sharma also drew attention of the PHE authorities towards many more issues such as regularization of daily wagers/CP workers, enhancement of medical allowance from Rs 300 to Rs1000 per month, DPC for all cadres twice in a year etc. He demanded that sufficient clerical staff be posted to the largest Division of PHE in Akhnoor so that the employees should get wages and other facilities regularly. He warned the concerned that if an early action was not taken, the employees of PHE Division Ahhnoor, will be compelled to come on roads.
Balbadar Raj, Ajay Sharma, Joginder Paul, Sudarshan Kumar and Jeetan Ram also accompanied Sharma.
