This has a reference to news item “Rs 186 Cr Project for Devika and Tawi” DE Jan 5. In this connection, the efforts of Dr Jitendra Singh MoS in PMO deserves all appreciation from the people of this Duggar heart land for getting sufficient funds for Pollution Abatement Project for the most sacred rivers of North India. The existing pollution level in both these rivers has crossed the critical limit and the sentiments of large population are badly hurt while performing religious and spiritual rituals on the banks of these rivers. But going by the track record of work executing agencies nothing can be said about the completion of these projects. There are many hurdles in the ways of development in Jammu Region because priorities change with the change of Govt in this State. So the Govt of India should appoint a Nodal Officer for the State of J&K State to obtain utilisation certificates and monitor physical work done progress on the spot.
At Udhampur there is large scale encroachment on Devika land. The records have been tampered with the support of powerful lobby of land mafia. Strong will and Administrative Skills are required to make Devika area encroachment free. The entire route of this Holy Devika Rivulet from Sudhmahadev to Benisang has large scale encroachments and pollution level at dangerous mark. So the Pollution Abatment Project should start from Sudhmahadev area as per public demand.
