KATHUA, Jan 27: Two Gujarati pilgrims were killed while three dozen others received injuries when the bus they were traveling in hit the divider before turning turtle near Chadwal Morh in this district on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway.
The pilgrims after paying obeisance at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Katra tehsil of district Reasi were heading for Golden Temple in Amritsar when their vehicle hit the divider before turning turtle near Chadwal Morh area, falling under the jurisdiction of Hiranagar Police Station. The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK02CB-1854 was on its way to Amritsar from Katra, when the driver lost control over the vehicle and hit a divider before turning turtle, resulting into severe injuries to around three dozen pilgrims.
After getting information, police team rushed to the spot and shifted the injured persons to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Hiranagar.
Around two dozen injured persons were later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu, where doctors declared two of the injured pilgrims as brought dead, while other injured persons were responding to the treatment, when last reports in.
The deceased have been identified as Ramilane Patil (50), wife of Naresh Bhai and Minaben Patil (20), wife of Piyush Bhai, both residents of Surat, Gujarat.
The injured persons have been identified as Hitesh, son of Ramesh Bhai, Bhakti Ben, wife of Hitesh, Basanti Ben, wife of Dinesh Bhai, Piyush Bhai, son of Dinesh Bhai, Jaish Bhai, Binny, son of Jaish Bhai, Balwant Bhai, son of Ishwar Bhai, Pratibha, wife of Jaish Bhai, Vikas, son of Deepak Bhai, Champa Ben, wife of Harish, Dhansukh Bhai, son of Murag Bhai, Ravi, son of Ravi Bhushan Patel, Dharmi, wife of Darvi Patel, Hemangi Ben, wife of Jayanti Bhai, Minesh, son of Nitin Bhai, Kailash Ben, wife of Dhansukh Bhai, Urmaila, wife of Bharat Bhai, Alpa, wife of Hitender Bhai, Jayanti Patel, son of Raman Bhai, Romila, wife of Apesh, Kiran Kumar Patel, son of Nanu Bhai and Ragni, wife of Rahul, all residents of Surat, Gujarat.
A case under FIR Number 12/19 under relevant Sections has been registered at Hiranagar Police Station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, after getting the news about the accident, Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (MoS) in PMO immediately rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu and enquired about the condition of the injured pilgrims.
Dr Singh expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured yatries.
He also directed the hospital authorities to provide best medicare facilities to the injured pilgrims and if required shift injured pilgrims for advanced treatment to other hospital outside Jammu and Kashmir.
Later, on the directions of Dr Singh, three pilgrims namely Bhakti Ben, Binny and Pratibha, who were critically injured, were shifted to a hospital outside J&K for advanced treatment.
