Water crisis among problems

JAMMU: Ward Number 74, a new Ward of Jammu Municipal Corporation is facing problem of water crisis, garbage disposal, street lights, stray animals and shortage of Government schools apart from others problems.
When visited, the resident of this Ward disclosed their problems where Abdul Rehman of Sunjwan mentioned about the problem of poor water supply in the locality.
“Especially in summers it becomes all tough and the people living here mostly have to depend upon private tankers for water supply at exorbitant prices,” he further said.
Sakina Bi-a housewife of Gujjar colony said that there is no place of garbage disposal in the Ward and people throw the garbage here and there spoiling surroundings.
Choudhary Saif informed that as most part of the Ward is lacking prober drainage system and due to that the drains mostly remain chocked and create problems when it rains as the dirty water even enters houses and a school in the locality is flooded with this dirty water.
Basher-a senior citizen in the Ward said that there is no street light as the Ward is a new one and it becomes very tough especially for old people to walk through bad roads and streets in evening hours where it is all dark in the absence of street lights.
Many other people also talked about poor power supply problem in the Ward.
Surjeet Singh of Bhatindi area expressed concern over the increased use of drugs and other narcotic substances by the youths of the area and said that police should increase their vigil in this regard. He also asked the parents to keep a check on the activities of their children.
In an interaction with EXCELSIOR Chowdhary Sobat Ali-Corporator of this Ward said that the Ward contains some part of Sainik Colony, Chowadi, Gujjar Colony, Haji Colony, Sunjwan and Bhatindi.
He agreed about all the prevailing problems in the Ward and assured that though it may take some time but the problems will be solved.
Sobat Ali had won the Urban Local Bodis elections as an Independent candidate with a margin of 30 votes.
