JAMMU, Feb 1: In a suo-moto PIL, Division Bench of the State High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Tashi Rabstan has sought status report about the restoration of damages caused to the 4th Tawi Bridge to pave the way for entrance to the Gujjar Basti.
When the PIL came-up for hearing, Division Bench observed, “respondents informed us that the damages to the Tawi Bridge have been repaired by the Public Works Department”, adding “let a status report is filed by the respondents in this regard before next date of hearing”.
The DB also appointed Advocate Rajneesh as Amicus Curie, who shall assist the court in the matter.
“The matter is of an extremely serious nature, in as much as not only the property is being damaged, but also, damage is effected to facilitate the encroachments on public land. No person would be allowed to encroach upon the public property for private purpose”, the DB said, adding “certainly, the action in damaging the bridge to provide illegal access to such encroachment is a crime of the worst nature”.
