Female cousin of slain militant comdr shot dead

SRINAGAR, Feb 1: Two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants were killed by security forces in a nocturnal gunfight in Drabgam village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district while cousin of a recently killed militant commander was shot dead.
A gun battle broke out around midnight after the security forces including 44 RR of Army, Pulwama Police and CRPF cordoned off Drubgam village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district after inputs about presence of a group of militants in a house.
During searches of the village, militants fired on the troops leading to a gun battle. Two militants of JeM were killed in the gun battle.

The militants were identified as Shahid Ahmad Baba of Drabgam and Inayat Ahmad of Arihal. Both were affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit.
A police spokesman said that Shahid Baba was active in Shopian and Pulwama areas and had a long history of involvement in the militancy. He was involved in conspiring and executing several attacks on security establishments in the area including grenade attacks. Inayat had joined the JeM recently but was for a long time associated with the militancy.
“Pertinently due to the efforts of security forces it was a clean operation and no collateral damage took place during the encounter. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken in case records for further investigation and probe their complicity in other terror cases”, police said.
Clashes broke out after youth took to streets and pelted stones on the security forces to disrupt the anti-militancy operation. The security forces lobbed teargas to disperse them.
Authorities suspended the mobile Internet service in Pulwama and Shopian districts soon after the gunfight broke out.
And militants shot dead a 25 year old woman in South Kashmir’s Shopian district last night at point blank range. The girl has been identified as Ishrat Muneer daughter of Muneer Ahmad Dar resident of Dangerpora, Pulwama and she was cousin of recently killed militant commander Zeenatul Islam.
Militants recorded the killing of the woman and circulated on the social media where it went viral.
Police has registered a case under relevant Sections of law and initiated investigation. “Pertinently police investigation is focused on some credible leads and it is expected soon the culprits will be brought before the law”, police said.
Two children were injured in Pulwama district of South Kashmir today after an explosive device they were fiddling with went off.
The children were playing with a mysterious object which exploded in hand of one child. Two children were injured and they were referred for treatment to District Hospital Pulwama. They have been identified as Junaid Bashir Wani, 16 and Irtiza Bashir Bhat, 12.
Meanwhile, militants this evening lobbed a hand grenade on paramilitary CRPF at Namtahal area of Chadoora in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district in which one personnel was injured.
Militants hurled a grenade on the CRPF resulting in injuries to a personnel of 43rd Battalion of CRPF. The injured was taken to nearby hospital for treatment.
Security forces cordoned off the area to search for the militants responsible for the attack.
