Srinagar, Feb 2: After remaining closed for traffic for two days, authorities after massive slide clearance operation this evening allowed the stranded traffic from and towards Srinagar to ply on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Shoukat Aijaz, said that clearance operation was started yesterday and there were slides at multiple places on the highway between Panthial and Battery Cheshma. He said that after hectic efforts, the slides were cleared at 3 pm. He added that the traffic that was stranded in Ramban and Banihal was allowed to move towards Jammu and Srinagar respectively.
Superintendent of Police Traffic, Rural Kashmir, Muzffar Ahmad Shah, said that they allowed 500 stranded trucks to cross the Jawahar Tunnel this evening as they were stranded between Lower Munda and Zig. He said that yesterday they had cleared 100 trucks towards Banihal.
The Traffic Police today said that traffic will be allowed to move from Jammu to Srinagar tomorrow. However, people have been advised to confirm the status of the highway before their journey and cut of timing for LMVs at Nagrota has been fixed between 9 a.m to 1:30 p.m and after that HMVs will be allowed to ply on the NH.
