Road Safety Week begins, awareness rallies organised across State

JAMMU, Feb 4: Different organisations here today observed the 30th Road Safety Week by organising programmes to aware masses on road safety. This year’s theme of Road Safety Week is ‘Sadak Suraksha Jeewan Raksha’ and the week will culminate on Feb 10.
Transport Commissioner inaugurated the 30th Road Safety Week in Jammu which is being organized by Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) in collaboration with Traffic Police, educational institutions and various other stake holders. On this occasion RTO Jammu informed that activities like road safety awareness, eye and health check-up camp, awareness programme for license seekers, poster and painting competition etc will be held in the week-long programmes.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramban, Showkat Aijaz Bhat inaugurated Road Safety Week and flagged off an awareness rally organized by MVD in this connection at Government Higher Secondary School Ramban. The rally threw light on importance of safety rules needed to be followed while driving on the road.

At Udhampur, the Road Safety Week was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner by flagging off awareness van containing educative videos, clips and message from Prime Minister regarding road safety.
In Rajouri, MVD organized awareness programme at new bus stand where a number of people participated. District Development Commissioner, Mohammad Aijaz Asad was the chief guest on the occasion and he flagged off an awareness rally on ‘Road Safety’. The DDC advised the gathering to avoid over speeding, overloading, drunken driving, use of mobile phone while driving, wrong over taking and underage driving to stop loss of precious human lives.
In Kathua, MVD organized a function where District Development Commissioner, Rohit Khajuria was the chief guest and he flagged off a walkathon in which many students participated. These students moved through different roads and lanes carrying banners and placards with messages of road safety.
At Samba, MVD celebrated the Road Safety Week by flagging off an awareness rally by Principal GDC. The rally was participated by the students from various schools of the district.
At Reasi, Deputy Commissioner, Dr Sagar Dattatray Doifode inaugurated the celebrations of Road Safety Week by flagging off of a cycle awareness rally in which a large number of students participated. Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that speeding is a major cause of road accidents which can easily be prevented by conscious decision and called upon the youngsters to strictly follow traffic rules and drive within prescribed speed limit.
At Doda, an awareness rally marked the Road Safety Week celebrations and was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner, Anshul Garg. Speaking on the occasion the DC exhorted upon the participants to wear crash helmets and seat belts as a safety measure and follow traffic rules strictly.
At Kishtwar, MVD kick started Road Safety week celebrations by flagging off of a car rally by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pawan Kumar Parihar.
At Poonch, the Road Safety Week was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner, Rahul Yadav. The
DDC appealed to the students to spread awareness among their brethren about safe driving, road safety and avoiding use of mobile phones during driving.
Meanwhile, a series of awareness programmes about road safety measures and traffic rules were held across Kashmir division as part of 30th Road Safety Week.
At Srinagar, Regional Transport Officer Kashmir, Akram-ullah Tak flagged-off an awareness rally. Other activities held on this occasion included distribution of pamphlets, awareness about overloading and overcrowding, use of seat belt and helmets, reflective tape etc.
At Pulwama, Deputy Commissioner, G.M Dar flagged off a rally in connection with Road Safety Week and he also made the gathering aware on traffic rules.
At Kulgam, Deputy Commissioner, Dr Shamim Ahmad Wani flagged off an auto rally for spreading awareness about traffic rules.
At Ganderbal, District Development Commissioner, Dr. Piyush Singla flagged off a rally to sensitize people about the importance of following traffic rules to prevent road accidents.
At Shopian, an awareness programme was inaugurated by Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Muhammad Saleem Malik in which drivers and general public participated. The ADDC and other speakers threw light on safe driving. Safety stickers, pamphlets and other print material relating to better roads and the safe journey were distributed.
At Bandipora, Deputy Commissioner, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary inaugurated the Road Safety Week by flagging off a walkathon. On this occasion, Dr Choudhary said, the aim of celebrating the week is to sensitize the people especially the drivers about road safety so that people drive sensibly on roads and follow traffic norms.
At Anantnag, a function was organised by Motor Vehicle Department in collaboration with Traffic Police where the ADDC flagged off a rally comprising bikes and other vehicles.
At Kargil, acting Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil Nassir Hussain Munshi inaugurated 30th Road Safety Week celebrations which would be focusing on awareness of road safety, traffic rules and prevention of accidents.
At Baramulla, a rally was flagged off by Senior Superintendent of Police, Mir Imtiyaz Hussain. Speaking on the occasion the SSP said that Road Safety Week is a national event aimed at raising public awareness about traffic rules to reduce casualties due to road accidents.
At Leh, Deputy Commissioner, Avny Lavasa inaugurated the 30th Road Safety Week and said that road safety is becoming an emerging problem in the country which can be reduced by disseminating more and more awareness among the people about traffic rules and regulations.
