JAMMU, Feb 5: Students of Central University of Jammu (CUJ) today resumed their protest against administration of the University for hiking the bus fare.
A large number of students, including girls, of various streams and semesters boycotted their classed and assembled at the Administration block where as strong protest demonstration was held amidst raising of slogans against the CUJ administration.
The protesting students were up in arms against the circular issued by the CUJ Administration hiking the University bus fare six times that too during the mid session. They were demanding roll back of the bus fare hike.
“According to the circular, each student must pay an amount of Rs 1000 per month to avail the complete bus service or free bus service which will be provided to them only from Rahya Morh to the University,” they said, adding that the administrative authorities failed to understand that there was no local stop at Rahya Morh and so the students have only one option to stop at Jakh and then take lift to reach Rahya Morh.
The protesting students alleged that they were being pressurized by the CUJ Administration to pay the fee in the mid of the session, lest they will be not allowed to sit in their upcoming mid-semester examination.
Even as Professor Proctor NK Tripathi and Dean Students Welfare, Dr Deepak Pathania offered to hold talks with representatives of the students for resolution of the issue, the protesters insisted to have an open discussion as there were no elected representatives.
The protest demonstration continued till late evening and the students announced to resume the same tomorrow morning.
