JAMMU, Feb 5: Activists of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena here today under the leadership of their President, Ashok Gupta staged a protest demonstration against the roadside parking at Raghunath Bazar area and alleged failure of the authorities concerned to tackle this problem.
Addressing the protesters, Gupta said that a Double Bench of J&K High Court in its decision had said that Raghunath Bazar should be made a vehicle free zone.
“Disobeying the Court order, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) not only failed to stop the vehicles but declared roadside parking as ‘paid parking’ at Raghunath Bazar,” Shiv Sena leader said adding that these parked vehicles lead to many problems like traffic jams etc.
“Roads are meant for commuting and not to park vehicles. Similarly, footpaths were made for pedestrians. Then why JMC has allowed parking on roads and footpaths if the law does not permit this,” Gupta asked.
He said that instead of creating parking space and enforcing rules, JMC is encouraging traffic chaos across the city.
Prominent among protesters included Ashu, Nanki, Sonu, Nikku, Bantu, Desraj, Sunita, Anita, Shashi, Sham, Vinod, Kala, Abhishek and others.
