WWF launches initiative for promoting green retail

MUMBAI, Feb 7: World Wildlife Fund (WWF), a nature and wild life conservation organisation, today launched ‘Sustainability in retail’, the rationale for promoting green retaiL in the country.
The initiative focused on global trends driving sustainibilty across the retail sector that will help business maximise profit while reducing their enviornmental impact.
Speaking at the conference, Mr Jamshed Godrej, trustee and president WWF-India, said ‘today it is important for Indian retail
to recognize that a profit making and environment are goals that can
work together. Innovation is key for Indian retailers to be ompetetive and adopting a green strategy could be strong factor for
them’.
Across the global retial segment, companies like Marks and Spence, Walmart, IKEA have adopted proactive Sustainability agendas,
such as sustainable palm oil, cotton, etc.
Mr. Ravi Singh, CEO, WWF-India, said the core focus of retail industry should be to ensure sustainable product line and supply chains and WWF-India engages with companies and retailers towards it.
The initiative was organised by WWF-India as a part of retail leadership summit 2013.
