JAMMU, Feb 11: Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association Jammu will suspend work in all the courts including High Court tomorrow in support of the resolution adopted by the Bar Council of India.
The decision in this regard was taken in the general house meeting of the Bar held under the presidentship of Senior Advocate B S Slathia in the conference hall of the District Court Complex.
The meeting was held to discuss the issues facing the lawyers’ community and date for holding election of new team of the office bearers of the Association. It was decided that the election for the new office bearers will be held on April 20, 2019 for tenure of one year.
The general house also discussed the minutes of joint meeting of the Bar Council of India relating to welfare measures for the lawyers and litigant public of the country and endorsed all the demands raised by the Bar Council of India.
Later, it was unanimously decided to suspend the work in all courts including High Court tomorrow and take out a protest rally from High Court complex to Governor’s House in support of the resolution adopted by the Bar Council of India and submit a memorandum to the President of India and Prime Minister through Governor of State.
The demands raised by the Bar Council of India include budgetary allocation of Rs 5000 crore for lawyers and litigants welfare in Annual Budget in order to ensure insurance cover for the lawyers and their families, stipend for needy new entrants at the Bar up to 5 years of their practice, financial protection to lawyers and their dependents in case of untimely death or incapacitation by reasons of disease and accident etc.
