NEW DELHI, Feb 8: Kashmir’s doors have been open since ages for those who desired knowledge, President Pranab Mukherjee told a visiting group of women teachers from the State here today.
“…The President said Kashmir was known as the ‘Sharda Peeth’, a seat of learning in ancient times. Its doors were open to scholars from every corner of the world who came in pursuit of knowledge and wisdom,” a Rashtrapati Bhawan statement said quoting Mukherjee as having told a group of 21 lady teachers of the State.
He also met a group of 25 students from Manipur at the Presidents’ house today.
Addressing the students, the President, according to the statement, said “Manipur is one of the most beautiful State of India. Its people are known for their graciousness and gentle nature.
“He congratulated Assam Rifles, one of the oldest security forces for organising the national integration tour for students.”
Mukherjee also lauded the Army signal corps for organising the ‘sadbhavana’ tour of the women teachers. (PTI)
