SRINAGAR, Feb 13: Former Chief Minister and president of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, today accused Governor Satya Pal Malik of implementing Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) agenda in the State.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference here, the PDP president said BJP is implementing its agenda through Governor led administration in the otherwise Muslim majority State by dividing the State into fragments and pitting different regions and communities against each other.
“We acted as a major hurdle for the BJP to implement its agenda in Jammu and Kashmir. However, since the time it toppled the democratically elected Government, the party is trying to rule the State through Governor and is making strenuous efforts to alienate the Muslims of the State,” Mehbooba said.
The former Chief Minister said that Governor is playing with fire by taking decisions against the sentiments of people. “Those at the helm including the Governor must know that Jammu and Kashmir is a Muslim majority State and any move aimed at alienating the majority community will have grave consequences”, she said.

Mehbooba slammed the Governor over adopting different yardsticks for different regions of the State. She demanded rotational headquarters at both Kargil and Leh for the recently created Ladakh division. “It is unfortunate that the otherwise peace loving people of Kargil are pushed to the wall with their rights being taken away from them in an unnatural manner”, she added.
The former Chief Minister said that the BJP while being PDP’s coalition partner in the State acted as a major hurdle in creation of separate divisions for Pir Panchal and Chenab Valley. “You cannot adopt different yardsticks for different regions of the State. There are strenuous efforts being made to create new fault lines, pit people of the State against one another. I caution the Governor administration not to play with fire in a sensitive State like Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.
Mehbooba said the way in which the people of Jammu are catering to the needs of stranded passengers is worth to be appreciable. She, however, said the actions of few feckless miscreants cannot undermine the earnest services rendered by the peace loving people of Jammu for the stranded passengers from Kashmir.
“We are thankful to Sikh community and Muslims for arranging langer for the stranded passengers on Srinagar-Jammu highway but at the same time the Governor administration must also take steps to ensure the stranded passengers won’t suffer,” she said.
While reacting over attack on stranded passengers, Mehbooba said miscreants are everywhere and people from both sides tried to communalize the situation.
The PDP president said in coalition Government, they always extended support to the stranded passengers whenever the road was closed due to the inclement weather conditions.
She demanded stern action against the traders involved in the black marketing of the essential commodities in Kashmir, stating that prices of essentials are touching the sky and authorities continue to remain in slumber.
She further reiterated that the passengers should be airlifted without any delay as there are old, sick, women and children in hordes bearing the brunt of the closure of the National Highway.
