SRINAGAR: About 40 houses were damaged after avalanche hit village Khandiyal in border town of Gurez, which remained cut off from the district headquarters Bandipora in north Kashmir due to accumulation of several feet of snow.
Official sources said avalanche hit village Khandiyal late on Thursday night. “25 houses were completely damaged while 15 were partly damaged in the avalanche,” they said.
They said fortunately the residents had moved to safer places in view of the avalanche threat.
Meanwhile, former Deputy Speaker of J&K Legislative Assembly, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, demanded relief and rehabilitation for the affected families. (AGENCIES)
