KATHUA, Feb 24: The recent untimely rains had given a severe blow to the farmer community as the bad weather had badly affected the standing crops.
Former MLC and Senior Congress leader Subash Gupta highlighting the current situation of the crops appealed the Governor to issue orders to the concerned authorities for immediate survey of the loss.
Mr Gupta said that unseasonal rains had immensely damaged the standing crops throughout the district, adding that the rains had damaged wheat as well as other Rabi crops vastly especially in Hiranagar sector.
He said that according to departmental reports, out of 1000 Hectare crop of wheat 50 percent had damaged due to unexpected rains.
He said the areas which suffered the maximum loss include Ward 1, 2, and 3 of Mandyal, Chak Jawahar, Devo Chak, Gail Band, Haripur Brahmana, Haripur Patal, Bhagwana Chak, Gangu Chak, Chakra, Gopala Chak, Mandala, Marheen, Changi, Chak Desa Choudrian, Sultanpur, Kundey Chak, Haria Chak, Korepunnu, Sherpur, Sadwal, Dulma Chak, and Rajpura.
Gupta said the untimely rains severely blew the farming community, adding that the farmers of the district were already facing number of hardships and now the nature had played cruel joke with them.
Gupta said that the reports are that the insurance companies are sabotaging the farmers.
He appealed the Governor to intervene in the matter and issue orders for conducting an immediate survey of the loss so that the estimation of loss made is in time to be followed by due compensation to the affected farmers.
