SAMBA, Mar 1: Former minister and senior Congress leader, Manjit Singh today urged upon the Government to enhance the reservation quota of the people residing along the International Border and provide 5 marla plots at safer places to the people residing closer to the border.
While addressing public meeting at Vijaypur in Samba former Minister and DCC president, Manjit Singh appreciated the move of Governor for granting reservation to people living along IB at par with LoC. This is a welcome step, however, he appealed the Governor that 3% reservation granted to border people is meagre as border area is densely populated, therefore, the percentage of reservation should be enhanced from 3% to 10 %. IB covers a population of around three lakh spread over 350 villages in Jammu division.This will enable the maximum border population to derive the benefits of reservation.
He further said that the border area generally remains tense due to unprovoked firing of the Pakistan. Therefore, these people remain dependent on employment for their bread and butter.
Singh said that unemployment percentage of the youth of border area is being increased day by day and thus the situation is becoming alarming. He urged the Governor to revisit the recent order granting 3% quota to people living on IB.
Manjeet Singh said that Governor should also accept long pending demand of five marla plots for the border residents putting up near International Border. He said that the students of these areas have been badly affected due to Pak shelling as they are unable to continue studies in view of heavy shelling and repeated migration towards safer places.
He lambasted the Kashmir centric parties for giving anti- national statements every now and then. He urged the Governor administration that action shall be taken as per law against such party leaders.
