JAMMU, Mar 1: Police along with civilians have recovered remnants of a missile fired by F-16 jets of Pakistan at village Mamankote Mallas, Chassana in district Reasi.
As per a police handout, on February 27 a mysterious explosion seriously injured one Bagh Hussain son of Ilam Din of Mamankote after which Village Defence Committee (VDC) members alerted police.
A police party led by DySP Reasi Nikhil Gogna after reaching the spot saw that impact of explosion was so big that splinters were scattered around 50 to 100 metres and a crater was formed there.
The police team after minutely examining the remnants of blast causing substance said it was an AMRAAM, which is used by select category of fighter planes including some used by Pakistan.
Realizing the importance of the seizure, their digital pictures were immediately clicked by the visiting police team and shared with their seniors which were then were further shared with other agencies.
The time of blast coincided with the time when there was an alert on account of reports of attempt of incursions made into the Indian territory by fighter planes of Pakistan in the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri thereby establishing that Pakistan had used F-16 fighter planes while attempting incursions inside Indian territory.
The seized material was handed over to local Army representatives for further investigation.
The injured was shifted to the nearby hospital.
The seizure was made by police party comprising SI Ali Imran, HC Mohd Iqbal, SgCt Mohidin, SPO Bashir Ahmed, SPO Rash Pal Singh and SPO Rajinder Singh.
The police team was given commendation and cash reward by the DGP.
The injured civilian Bagh Hussain, VDC member and another civilian were also rewarded for timely reporting the matter.
