RAMBAN, Mar 2: Commissioner Secretary, Power Development Department (PDD), Hirdesh Kumar, today laid the foundation stone of Government Degree College (GDC), Batote.
District Development Commissioner (DDC) Ramban, Showkat Aijaz Bhat, ADC Dr. Basharat Hussain, Principal GDC Ramban Ravinder Tiku various senior officers and large number of people from all walks of life of tehsil Batote were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Hirdesh Kumar said that establishing a Degree College at Batote was a decade-old demand of Batote people.
He also said that Batote is the oldest town of district Ramban and is centre of various areas and GDC Batote will cater to the need of higher education of inhabitants of various villages and a score of Panchayat halqas.
He said that Government is committed to take higher education to the doorsteps for everyone.
The DDC gave a brief of facilities and infrastructure available in the district besides other ongoing developmental activities. He asked the people to provide suitable land for the construction of Kendrya Vidyalaya in Batote.
People of the area appraised the dignitaries about their demand including starting of classes of newly sanctioned Degree College and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) at Batote and Hirdesh Kumar assured that their genuine demands would be fulfilled on priority basis.
