Chadoora residents aghast over shifting of Degree College

SRINAGAR, Mar 2: The residents of Chadoora area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district expressed their resentment over shifting of a Degree College in the area to Wathora area.
The residents said that recently Government sanctioned a Degree College for Chadoora which was a long pending demand of the whole area but due to unknown reasons the college was shifted to another place.
They said Chadoora is a centrally located area with its connectivity to all the areas and as many as 15 Higher secondary schools are feeding for it. “Government has issued instructions for identification of State land for the establishment of the college. In Chadoora there is dearth of state land however plenty of private land is available. SDM Chadoora and Deputy Commissioner Budgam, at their own level, without consulting Civil Society Chadoora and other associations like Bar Association Chadoora, Shopkeepers Association Chadoora etc relocated Degree College outside the town and municipal limits to Wathora which is 3-4KM from Chadoora where only 25 kanals of rural development land is available which means all the students have to board buses to reach college. One bus to reach Chadoora and another bus to reach Wathora,” they said.
The residents proposed that if it is the question of free land then the land already identified for Bus Stand in Chadoora in which almost 40 Kanals of State land is available should be diverted for establishment of degree college and Bus stand can be shifted to any other place or any other site in consultation with the stake holders within Chadoora limits where plenty of land is available.
They requested the Governor to intervene and direct the Divsional Commissioner Kashmir, DC Budgam for cancellation of the relocation of Degree College with immediate effect.
