Report Card

Sir,
This has reference to Ex-MLAs’ Report Card of Jammu West Constituency (DE, March1). The headline ‘Sat leaves Jammu West people dejected’ is the most appropriate and the survey by your correspondent is without any fear or favour, malice and ill will and is fair and genuine. I was under the false impression that papers work under a policy not to annoy the powerful leaders, beneficiaries and their supporters by not publishing anything which highlights their shortcomings. I have been proved wrong after reading this survey. There are still papers like ‘Daily Excelsior’ which give voice to public and don’t succumb to any pressure and thus safeguard right to speech and freedom of press.
In his interaction with your correspondent, ex-MLA has highlighted his achievements in addressing issues like lanes, drains, electricity, water-supply etc. but like many others our experience too has been contrary to his claims. Ajit Colony Extn. Welfare Committee of Ward 32 called on him more than a dozen times for laying of a drainage system (as none was ever laid) and black topping of the road but he remained indifferent and insensitive to our grievances. It will be interesting to see if the party still gives him mandate in the coming Assembly elections despite leaving his voters dejected.
