CHANDIGARH, Mar 19: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has directed the Defence Services Welfare Department to extend financial assistance of Rs 12 lakh to the family of Sepoy Karamjeet Singh, who was killed by Pakistani troops who violated the Line of Control in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
The relief includes Rs seven lakh as ex-gratia and Rs five lakh in lieu of land, to be given to the next of kin of the martyr, as per the existing policy, according to an official spokesperson.
Expressing shock and grief at the death of Moga’s Karamjeet Singh in the Pak action, the Chief Minister last night tweeted his anger. “Pakistan shamelessly continues to violate all principles of international & humanitarian law with its repeated ceasefire violations. Punjab has once again lost a young soldier from Moga due to Pak firing. My heart goes out to the family of Karamjeet Singh,” he wrote. (UNI)
