JAMMU, Mar 20: Under its monthly programme “Horizon Series”, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Jammu today organized a cultural cum painting competition based on theme “Vidhya Dhan Mahan Dhan” in the premises of Kala Kendra, Jammu.
The event was organized in collaboration with Pt Sansar Chand Baru Memorial Charitable Trust. The wife of K K Sharma, Advisor to Governor of the State, graced the occasion as chief guest. Besides, Raj Bharti (social worker), T R Sharma (Retd KAS), Anuradha Rishi (president, Sansar Chand Baru Trust) and other distinguished guests were also present.
Children of Nagrota Primary School and Viraj Bal Bhawan School were invited on the occasion to demonstrate their talent. Besides showcasing their painting skills, the students also presented some dance items.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs K K Sharma expressed her happiness to witness the talent of students who kept the audience spell bound during the program. She also interacted with children and distributed prizes as an incentive to children wishing them bright future.
Earlier in his welcome address, NK Shil, Regional Director of ICCR, briefly highlighted the various activities carried out by the Council in Jammu region ever since its inception way back in July 2012. He said that besides holding cultural and other events, the main aim of the ICCR is to bring the entire country together through cultural initiatives.
“At the same time, ICCR tries to provide platform to budding local talents especially those hailing from far flung areas also and disadvantaged background so that they can showcase their talent in the field of dance, music, drama and art competition thereby motivating them for achieving higher level in these fields,” he added.
The function was coordinated by Reena Slathia, Cultural Officer of ICCR and conducted by Rajni Anubhav, renowned Radio and TV anchor.
