JAMMU, Mar 23: Department of Pediatrics in SMGS Hospital Jammu, organised a programme for awareness on Pediatric Cancer and advanced treatment.
Dr Sunanda Raina, Principal and Dean GMC Jammu, was chief guest on the occasion and she expressed her satisfaction over the works being done by the Deptt of Pediatrics for the care and management of children with cancer.
Dr G S Saini, HoD Deptt of Pediatrics, apprised the gathering about the work and activities being done by the Department of Pediatrics for the management & welfare of children with cancer. He further informed that free of cost treatment is being provided to all pediatric cancer patients with the support of CANKIDS, an NGO working for childhood cancer.
Dr Sanjeev K Digra, Incharge Pediatric Cancer Ward, presented the overview of work carried out in this ward since its establishment in 2014. Informing that number of survivors has increased, he said that majority of the patients admitted in this ward are suffering from Blood Cancer followed by Wilms Tumor and Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
The Pediatric Cancer patients under treatment in Department of Pediatrics along with the survivors and the Pediatric Cancer ward staff including Dr Ritu Bangotra (MO), Dinakshi (Incharge Sister), staff nurses Bharti and Rukhsana and Counsellor Suruchi Sharma, carried out a small procession within the hospital premises displaying banners for Cancer Awareness and painless treatment of cancer.
The children presented a small cultural programme, which s was followed by a talk on Pain Management in children by Dr Nikhil, JR Pediatrics. Dr Sonam Chalotra conducted the proceedings.
