JAMMU, Mar 25: 2nd session of J&K Teachers Congress on the topic “Professional Development of Science Teachers”, catalyzed & supported by Department of Science, Technology & Innovation Council, J&K Govt, began today at GGM Science College.
In this event, about 200 teachers, both from School & Higher Education Departments from within and outside the State participated. The Secretary to Higher Education Department, Talat Parveez Rohella, was chief guest during the inaugural function. He called upon the Science teachers to come forward with innovative research that would go a long way in helping the society in general and students in particular. He impressed upon the inculcation of scientific temperament in the students.
Principal of the College, Dr S P Sarswat, in his address, emphasised that such events would certainly produce a good outcome for the teacher community. Dr Sunil Gupta, Convenor of the programme, highlighted the purpose for organising such congress. He informed the audience that during these three- day event, thirty six speakers from within and outside the State would throw light on their respective fields of expertise and it would certainly give a good exposure to the science teachers of this region.
Prof Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affairs, Cluster University of Jammu, who presided over the function, hoped that this Science Teachers Congress at Jammu will certainly enhance the skills of teachers due to changing scenario all over the world.
Prof Pawan Kumar Sharma from Department of Chemistry, Kurukshetra University, Haryana, in his key note address, highlighted the importance and applications of Chemistry in School & College Curriculum. Prof A P Singh, Ex-Vice Chancellor & Prof Emeritus, Central University, Rajasthan, also spoke on the occasion and talked about his teaching experience. Prof Mohinder Singh Sasan, shared his experiences about Science Congress.
The vote of thanks was presented by Dr Naveen Anand, Organizing Secretary of this Congress. Dr Alpana Vohra conducted proceedings of the Congress.
