JAMMU, Mar 25: One-day awareness programme on various central schemes for girl child was organized today by Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), ICDS Project Migrant, Neha Gupta at Karan Nagar, Jammu.
Relief Commissioner, Migrants, M L Raina; Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Jammu, Dr Parvesh Kumar, vice president, Bal Niketan, K K Mengi, besides all the Supervisors of ICDS Project, Anganwari Workers and adolescent girls were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Relief Commissioner stressed upon the need to change the mind set of people regarding discrimination with girls. He insisted specially the women folk to come forward to change the mind set of people regarding girl child and their education.
Dr Parvesh Kumar apprised the gathering about the health standards adopted at Anganwari Centres. He stressed upon the Anganwar Workers and Helpers to adapt food safety measures and maintain hygiene practices including personal hygiene level at Anganwari centres. He also stressed on the mass campaign to save the girl child as well as to stop the crime against them, especially female feticide and gender inequality.
The CDPO briefed the participants about the Preconception and Pre natal Sex Determination Act. She asked her field functionaries to be committed and aware the public to avail the benefit of schemes implemented by ICDS viz., Laadli Beti and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.
Health & Nutrition Mobilizer, Sunaina Bhat delivered lecture on Health & Hygiene of adolescent girls.
Different cultural activities were also presented by Anganwari Workers, Helpers and adolescent girls. Later, adolescent girls of Migrant community were awarded for their achievement and performance in various fields viz Academics, Sports and Art by distinguished guests.
