JAMMU, Mar 30: After extensive tour of entire Samba district, the prominent leader of PoK Displaced Persons and chairman of SOS International, Rajiv Chuni, who is contesting Lok Sabha polls from Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary seat as independent candidate, began his election campaign in Jammu. During the canvassing here, Rajiv Chuni addressed a series of public meetings and also conducted door to door campaign highlighting his agenda for the PoK Displaced community settled in J&K.
In his addresses at Rehari, Resham Ghar, Bakshi Nagar and other areas, Rajiv Chuni explained the reasons behind contesting Lok Sabha elections and stressed that this was for the time the Displaced community would have the choice to vote for own candidate. “So far, the PoK Displaced Persons had been voting for others who failed to address their issues and this is for the first time that the we will exercise our democratic right for own candidate, who is himself a DP and has experienced agony of the community,” Rajiv Chuni explained and lambasted both BJP and Congress for their failure to address the decades long issues of PoK DPs.
“We have no choice other than to maintain equidistant from both the parties because BJP candidate is tainted one while Congress candidate Raman Bhalla as then Minister for Revenue had intentionally not okayed the PoK DPs package, which was later approved by his successor Aijaz Khan,” Rajiv Chuni said. Stating that the votes polled in his favour would be a reply to those politicians who have had been ignoring the existence and strength to the PoK Displaced Persons, Rajiv Chuni alleged that hurdles were being created by the administration for discouraging canvassing by his supporters.
“There is no level playing field for the candidates. While the administration is openly supporting the BJP candidate, on the other hand, obstacles are being created to discourage us from campaigning,” he said and alleged that allotment of election symbol and security were intentionally delayed by the administration to help bigger political parties, particularly the BJP.
During the campaigning, Rajiv Chuni was accorded rousing reception by the Displaced community members at different places who extended all possible support to him.
