5-day course on ‘Safety of Women’ for police investigators concludes

UDHAMPUR, Mar 30: Organized by Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur, a five-day course on “Safety of Women” for investigators of Jammu & Kashmir Police concluded today.
A total of 22 officers attended the course. The course was inaugurated by Mohd Sulaiman Salaria (ADGP), Director Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) , Udhampur. In the inaugural address, the Director highlighted the importance of the course for the investigators of J&K police.
During the course, eminent professionals from the field of Law, Forensics, Investigations and Medicines were invited. The topic of Legal Provisions of Law, Latest Amendments and Judicial Pronouncements, Drafting and Registration of FIR as well as the topic of defects in investigation, prosecution of cases, common mistakes leading to non prosecution was deliberated upon by Kamal Sharma, CPO.
Inspector Isha Mahajan delivered a lecture on victim counseling and recording of statement of victims while Inspector Tahir Hussain discussed the investigation of cases of acid attack, eve teasing, stalking and outrage of modesty of women. Shamsher Singh Parihar, Retd Deputy SP discussed the investigation of kidnapping, abduction, cruelty against women, female feticide, dowry death cases, trafficking of women and girl child while Sunil Sharma, Senior PO, Inspector Vivek Gupta, Vijay Sudan (Senior PO) as well as Murtaza Nasir (DDP) also delivered lectures.
To give the first-hand knowledge in the use of Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kit (SAECK) as well as the simulation of the crime scene investigation, the Retd Deputy Director FSL, CFSL Chandigarh, Dr LS Rana comprehensively and in detail held five exhaustive sessions, wherein the importance of DNA evidence, simulation of indoor and outdoor crime scene investigation of sexual assault and murder case was discussed done and the practical hands on the collection, handling, labeling, packing of biological and physical evidences was conducted.
Dr Narinder Kumar Gupta, deliberated on the role of Forensic Science in sexual assault cases.
The course was held under the aegis of BPR&D New Delhi, on the directions of the MHA New Delhi as an initiative to curb the crime against women and to make the police officer proficient in the use of SAECK.
