SRINAGAR, Apr 4: Children of employees working with Public Health and Engineering Depart-ment today gathered at Pratap Park here along with their parents in protest against Government’s inaction on regularization of their services, realising pending wages and amendment of SRO 520.
The children were carrying placards that read “I do not have school fees because I am a daily wager’s son”, “please save our future and “we want justice”. The protesting children also raised slogans in support of their parents’ demands. “ They were kicked out of their schools as we are unable to pay their tuition fee or buy them books. So, they came here to support us,” a protesting employee said.
While speaking to the reporters, Sajad Ahmad Parray, Chairman of the association said they were protesting to remind the Government of its promises, “the Government made several promises to us: a release of pending wages, regularization of services, the amendment in SRO 520 and jobs to land donors.  But, all the promises have turned out to be hollow,” he said. Besides, he lamented that the Government was ruining the future of their kids by not releasing their pending wages.
The protesting employees threatened to boycott their services if their demands are not fulfilled.  “We will stop the water supply of the entire Kashmir if our demands are not fulfilled. The Government will be responsible for the consequence,” a protestor said, adding that they are also a part of the society and don’t want the people to suffer. They alleged that the Government’s behaviour towards them is compelling them to take the extreme step.
They further said that if their demands are not fulfilled, they will launch a statewide agitation.
