Raising non-issue of ‘conditionalities’ exposes Mehbooba’s ignorance about J&K’s political history: Chrungoo

JAMMU, Apr 6: While taking a strong exception to the position taken by Mehbooba Mufti regarding “conditional integration” of J&K state, BJP State Spokesperson on Kashmir Affairs, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo said today that the arguments put by her in this regard are absolutely trash and misleading.
The right to accede to the Dominions of India or Pakistan was limited to the Rulers of the Princely ruled States of India as per the Indian Independence Act of 1947. This right was not granted to the people and therefore the subjects of the respective States were not in any way connected with the decision of the ruler. The decision of the ruler, in this context, was not also sought to be linked or influenced by the demographic composition of the State either,” he added.
Next, the Instrument of Accession was also unconditional and the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir requested the Union of India to protect his State from the Pakistan raid on the State. The dominion of India promised to do so if the State of J&K acceded to India. Maharaja Hari Singh signed the same Instrument of Accession that was signed by all the Princely ruled States and there was no condition attached to that.
Mehbooba Mufti by raising the non-issue of “conditionalities” in fact exposes her ignorance about the political history of Jammu and Kashmir and the constitutional and legal position of the State viz a viz its relations with the Union of India. She also seems unaware of the provisions of the Indian Independence Act of 1947. She also needs to know that the Constitution of J&K declares the State of Jammu & Kashmir as an integral part of India. So, her diatribe, in this regard, is simply guided by vote-bank politics and her ignorance of the facts of history and these of her views are completely unfounded and unwarranted.
He added that Kashmiri Muslims are not the only subjects of the State whom she is referring to in this regard time and again. The Dogra community of Jammu region, people of Ladakh and the Sikh community of the State have always overwhelmingly supported the integration of the State with the Union of India, he added.
“Kashmiri Pandits, the indigenous people of Kashmir, who are the real stakeholders of the land of Kashmir, have all along been the greatest integrationists and patriots who swear by India despite being forced to live as refugees in their own country.
“In such a situation, the whole contention of Mehbooba Mufti is inherently communal in nature and sectarian by character. Moreover, her past mis-governance and misadventures in politics have not yielded any positive results to her or to the people so far”, he informed.
The “wall of hatred” that is Art370 and its so-called “non-existent soul” ie. Art 35A will have to go, in all cases, since their abolition represents the resolve of the Nation. Blackmailing and threatenings are old fashioned, neither also will they fetch any gainful political or financial “products” from any quarter in the Centre as they used to do earlier, some time ago during the rule of Congress and Congressmen.
