Sena, Dogra Front hold protest against price hike

JAMMU, Feb 18: Shiv Sena and Dogra Front activists held demonstration followed by protest march against the price hike of petroleum and vegetables and failure of Government to control it.
A large number of activists of both the organizations, led by Ashok Gupta assembled near Raghunath Mandir Chowk and started protest demonstration from there towards Hari Market, Bus Stand, Gumat and finally culminated at Press Club. The activists including large number of women were carrying baskets of vegetables in their hands. They were shouting slogans against the UPA Government at the Centre and NC-Congress Coalition Government in the State.
While addressing the protesters at Press Club, Ashok Gupta said that frequent hike in the prices of diesel and petrol/ LPG etc has caused much impact on the transport system and the other consumable goods. He said it gives hike to the freight and fare charges and its direct impact lies on the general public. He said the prices of vegetables including lady- fingers, Karela, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, Shimla Mirch, cucumber etc have gone sky high. It has even doubled in some cases in last just one month. CAPD, Agriculture and other allied organizations were sleeping over the issue and there was no control on the rates at all.
He alleged that economic policies of the UPA Government have broken the back of the common man and the politicians at the Centre are hardly bothered about the public plight. There is no control on the essential commodities.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Raj Kumar, Surinder Singh, Vikram Sharma and Sushil Kumar.
