SRINAGAR, Feb 18: CPI (M) State Secretary, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has demanded immediate release of the youth who have been arrested from different places of the Valley after the execution of Mohammad Afzal Guru.
In a statement, Tarigami called upon the police, paramilitary and other security forces to observe maximum restraint wherever they enter into any sort of confrontation with civilians. He said the anger among people is understandable adding that people should also realize that violent means do not suit them and can never serve any purpose.
“The selective execution of Guru has defaced the democratic ethos of the country and it has created a wave of indignation, anger and disgust among the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The frequent and unwarranted detention of people particularly youth is bound to vitiate the atmosphere. I urge upon the authorities to release all the youth detained during last few days and withdraw all the false and frivolous charges under which they have been arrested,” said Tarigami. He reiterated his demand that the mortal remains of Guru be returned to his family for the last rites.
