JAMMU, Feb 18: A workshop on “Research Methodology and Application of SPSS for Data Analysis” jointly organized by the Department of Statistics and the Department of Economics in Jammu University, was inaugurated today by the Vice-Chancellor Prof MPS Ishar.
This ten-day workshop is supported by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) as part of its nationwide initiative to raise the quality of research in the Social Sciences in the country particularly among SC/ST researchers.
The workshop is being attended by the participants from all across the Northern States of India. Eminent Statistician and researchers will deliver the lectures in the coming days of the workshop which will enhance the research skill of the participants.
The focus of the workshop is on the using of statistical software to handle and analyze the data and to test the data for statistical significance.
VC Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, in his inaugural address, emphasized on the importance of research methodology workshop for research scholars. He advised the course organizer to hold such courses as a regular feature so that skills of research worker could be sharpened.
The Dean, Research, Prof Rekha Choudhary in her address chalked out the need of such workshop for the research workers especially in social sciences.
On this occasion, Prof Dipankar Sengupta, HoD Economics Department, Prof Rahul Gupta, HoD Statistics Department, and other faculty members of the two departments, JK Sharma, OSD to the Vice-Chancellor were also present.
