Jora reviews progress on JNNURM projects

JAMMU, Feb 18: Emphasizing on close coordination among departments and executing agencies, the Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora has asked the concerned functionaries to speed up work to ensure timely completion of the projects taken up under the Centrally sponsored Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) programme for the State.
The Minister was reviewing the status on the projects taken up under JNNURM in the State at an officers meeting here today
Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development, Jeetlal Gupta, senior officers of SMC, JMC, ULD, Kashmir and Jammu and STRC were present on the occasion.
The meeting was informed that 108 projects have been sanctioned by the Centre under this programme, while Rs. 548 crore stands expended against the total sanctioned cost of Rs. 1312.64 crore. The meeting was further informed that under urban transport Rs. 26.40 crore has been approved for procurement of 150 buses, 75 each for Jammu and Srinagar cities.
It was given out that under Urban Infrastructure Development for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT), Rs. 217 crore have been incurred so far out of the sanctioned funds of Rs. 424.42 crore approved for 47 projects, while work on five projects of Rs. 162.39 crore taken up under Basic Services to Urban Poor (BSUP) programme was in progress with expenditure of Rs. 26.80 crore.
Under Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP), the Centre has approved 50 schemes costing Rs. 147.60 crore against which Rs. 66.07 crore have been expended so far.
The Minister asked officers to include all the expenses while preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), including cost required for shifting of utilities to avoid delay in completion of the works. “No excuse would be accepted in taking forward the projects”, the Minister warned and asked officers monitoring the progress of the projects to seek help and advice of the Administrative Department in removing bottlenecks, if any.
Mr. Jora asked the concerned officers to hire the consultants where required and ensure that consultant remains, present at construction sites till the projects are completed. He asked officers to take necessary guidance and advices of Administrative Department and ensure that projects are completed in time bound manner.
