Srinagar, Apr 13: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi lost opportunity in resolving Jammu and Kashmir and he failed to become Vajpayee.
Addressing a rally in Budgam district of Srinagar Parliamentary constituency, Mehbooba said that like Pakistan PM Imran Khan who thinks that Modi can resolve Kashmir, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was thinking on same lines.
“Like Imran Khan said that the ties between Indian and Pakistan can see the light of the day if Modi comes to power, in the same fashion, Mufti sahib read the situation and said that if the issue of Kashmir is resolved, it can happen under Modi. He has the BJP with him; he has got Jansang with him. He was thinking that Modi can become another Vajpayee. Unfortunately, Modi failed in doing so, he lost that opportunity”, she said.
The PDP president said that times are crucial and tough as very basis of accession of Jammu and Kashmir with Indian Union is under attack. “The times around are crucial and tough. The very basis of the accession of J&K with India are being attacked from everywhere. They are saying that Articles 370, 35A will be abrogated, and the basis upon which the accession stands will be eliminated. That’s why I am here today, telling you that how important is the vote that you are going to cast”, she said.
“This is the time for you to safeguard the identity of the State. Imagine, if they will abrogate the Article 370, they will bring people from outside, they will settle down here, and those who are boycotting the elections will not be disturbed, people who will be brought in to Kashmir will cast their votes. So the vote that you are going to cast this time around, use your mind and cast it in the favour of PDP”, Mehbooba said.
Highlighting the work of PDP during its rule, she appealed people to vote for the party. “You have been a witness to the PDPs work in the past as well. Mufti sahib never lied to the people. When he became the CM, there was POTA, there was the Task Force, there were Ikhwanis, nor did he eliminat these things, he opened roads, he built colleges, and made efforts to open the Muzaffarabad road, he did everything to initiate the process of dialogue between Vajpayee and those from Hurriyat. He also made relentless efforts to kick-start dialogue between Pakistan and Vajpayee”, she said.
Mehbooba said that her party shook hands with saffron party for the benefit of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Our agenda is clear. We shook hands with BJP that too, just for your sake, otherwise, Mufti sahib could have been CM with the support of Congress at that time. He used to say do I have to strive to become the CM or take care of that youth who has picked up gun or a stone, those who have been devastated by the unemployment in the State”, she said.
Mehbooba appealed people to give a youngster a chance from Srinagar Parliamentary constituency. “So it is your responsibility to cast your vote in favour of the PDP this time, because it is the party that says the same thing here and even in Delhi. We have never lied to people. Farooq Abdullah has been winning time and again, now you should change it and give the youngsters a chance to serve you in a better way”, she said.
