Guest lecture on ‘Emerging Issues in Teacher Education’ held at MIER

JAMMU, Apr 16: The PG Department of Education, MIER College of Education organized a guest lecture on the theme “Emerging Issues in Teacher Education”.
The resource person on the occasion was Prof SK Yadav, former Head, Department of Teacher Education, NCERT and consultant NCTE. Prof Adit Gupta, Director and Principal MIER College of Education chaired the session.
Prof NR Sharma, Dean Academics MIER College, Dr Mool Raj, HoD PG Department and Head CET, Dr Nishta Rana, Deputy HoD and Head CER along with faculty members of PG Department and students of the MEd, MA Education, and BEd Special Education (MR/ID) attended the lecture.
In his address, Prof SK Yadav said that the issues which influenced teacher education decades ago are obsolete today because with the evolving of teacher education in India, new issues and challenges have emerged such as lack of relationship between school and teacher education, not adequate integration of theory and practice, lack of integration between content and pedagogy etc.
He deliberated upon the changes in pre-service as well as in-service teacher education programmes and their challenges and issues. Prof Yadav highlighted various committee, commissions and schemes in teacher education from post independent India till date. He shared his experiences in the field and provided ample examples in explaining issues and their solutions.
This was followed by an active interaction session where the faculty members and students clarified their doubts and queries.
Dr Bharti Tandon, Assistant Professor, PG Department presented a formal vote of thanks to the distinguished speaker and the audience.
