CS, Pahari speaking people delegation call on Governor

JAMMU, Feb 19: Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, Chief Secretary, called on N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan, here today.
This was Mr. Khandey’s first meeting with the Governor after taking over as the Chief Secretary of the State yesterday.
The Governor had wide ranging discussions with Mr. Khandey, covering issues relating to governance, security, and growth and development. The Governor also reviewed with Mr. Khandey several important issues relating to the Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2013.
The Governor wished the new Chief Secretary high success in the discharge of his important responsibilities.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the Pahari speaking people called on Mr. Vohra, and presented to him their demands.
The main demand discussed with the Governor by the 11-member delegation led by Kafeel-ur-Rehman, Vice Chairman, State Advisory Board for Development of Pahari Speaking People, related to the grant of Scheduled Tribe status to the Pahari speaking people.
The Governor, who has had several earlier meetings with the deputations of Pahari speaking people and is fully aware of their long pending demand for grant of Scheduled Tribe Status, reviewed the to-date status of the matter with the members of the delegation. He assured the delegation that he would further pursue this matter with the concerned authorities.
The deputationists included Ajaz Ahmad Jan, MLA; Dr. Shehnaz Ganai, MLC; Syed Mushtaq Ahmad Bukhari, former Vice Chairman, State Advisory Board for Development of Pahari Speaking People and Mirza Abdul Rashid, former Minister.
Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor, was present on the occasion.
