JAMMU, Feb 19: Sarpanchs and some Congress leaders from Ganderbal area have alleged discrimination with the Central Kashmir as Ganderbal district has been denied representation in the Upper House of J&K Legislature by Congress Party.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, Sarpanch Ghulam Rasool Sheikh (Block president Lar), Mohd Afzal Bhat -Panch, Sarpanch Ghulam Mohd Dar and others expressed great shock and grief on the way some developments took place for the nominations of the members for the Upper House recently. They said a strong mass leader Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar has been ignored from Ganderbal area for the nomination to the Legislative Council. He was leading the masses after the death of his father Shaheed Sheikh Jabbar , a former Minister, who was also gunned down by militants in 1990.
The district has been quietly deprived of its due representation while as other district from where PCC chief hails, has been provided more than required representation which is shocking and surprising as well. This decision has demoralized the ground level Congress workers of the area and Congress cadre. They appealed the AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Incharge J&K Affairs, Mohan Parkash to personally look into the matter.
Meanwhile, Sarpanchs, Panchs and Congress activists from Ganderbal area held strong protest demonstration outside Press Club here this afternoon and alleged discrimination with the Central Kashmir in the Legislative Council. They raised slogans against PCC president Prof Soz and demanded representation of Sheikh Jabbar in the Upper House.
