RAMBAN, Apr 22: The traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained suspended for about seven hours after frequent landslides in Monkey Morh area in Ramban- Ramsu sector today.
Official sources said that due to frequent land slides for the last three consecutive days in view of on-going road widening (4-laning) work on the National Highway, a traffic mess has been created on the Highway. Today was down convoy and over 2500 vehicles are said to have stranded on the road by late this evening. They are moving on snails pace.
Sources said that even on Sunday, the traffic remained disrupted for about 8 hours due to land slides at Monkey Morh and Battery Chashma area. A large number of people remained stranded along with their vehicles for hours. It said that as the highway is cleared, scores of vehicles are allowed to cross the land sliding area. Then again shooting stones and fresh land slides take place and the highway is again blocked. It happened for about 7-8 times during the day today and during past two days. It is happening only due to the negligence and non-professional approach of the private highway construction agency as no preventive measures are being taken by them, the sources added.
