MENDHAR, Apr 23: A police constable and a civilian died due to short circuit of 33 KV transformer at Chhungan Chroon village of Mendhar Sub Division in Poonch district on Tuesday morning.
Reports said that a Constable (Follower) of J&K Police identified as, Faiz, son of Mohd Sharief (40) and a civilian- Mohd Shabir, son of Abdul Rahim (38), died on spot after they came in touch with live wire.
BMO Mendhar, Pervaiz Ahmed Khan confirmed that two people including a Constable and civilian were dead and six injured when they came in touch with live wire after there was short circuit in a transformer.
The injured are identified as Bashir Ahmed, son of Mir Hussain, resident of Chharoong; Shakeel Ahmed (25), son of Mir Mohammad from Charoon; Zahid Abbas (22), son of Mohd Hanif from Chharoong; Lal Hussain (60), son of Raj Mohammad from Chharoong; Safeena Bi (35), wife of Faiyaz Ahmed from Chharoong and Nazarat Hussain (22) son of Mohammad Shabir from Chharoong in Mendhar tehsil of District Poonch.
SHO Mendhar rushed to the spot after coming to know about the incident. The locals said power supply in the area was normal. Then suddenly, the power voltage went very high. With this their electronic items like TV, refrigerators started damaging and in a panic they rushed to disconnect the power supplies and got trapped. They held PDD authorities responsible for it and demanded that an FIR should be registered against the concerned staff. The police said that it will take cognizance of the matter.
