Amit sensitizes SKUAST-J faculty, students on road safety measures

JAMMU, Apr 23: Amit Sharma, Special Secretary to Government, Transport Department with additional charge of J&K Road Safety Council, today sensitized faculty as well as students studying in Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu (SKUAST-J) on road safety measures.
The programme was attended by acting Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-J, KS Risam, Rajesh Talwar (Registrar) and Comptroller Rajesh Talwar, Director Research Dr Jag Paul Sharma, Director Education Dr TAS Ganaie, Director, Planning and Monitoring Dr Jag Paul Sharma, Estates Officer Sushil Pandita and may others.
Amit Sharma visited SKUAST-J on request by the Varsity to share his expert opinion about Road Safety and create awareness to mitigate transport related challenges. In a pointed address, Amit touched several areas for knowledge enhancement of young agriculture graduates, post graduates and faculty of the University wherein he quoted several contemporary examples and rules which should be followed while driving vehicles on roads.
The student and teaching faculty of SKUAST-J got answered from the Special Secretary Transport regarding their queries on Road Safety and gave suggestions for improving traffic conditions and bringing safety on roads of winter capital Jammu such as removal of rehris (food stalls) from sides of main highway of Jammu upto Satwari.
They also pointed that AAI should create an Exit Gate of Jammu Airport in inner road like Entry Gate as it chokes traffic on RS Pura road many-a-times. Also, they requested that flyovers should come up fast in Satwari Chowk, Rehari Chowk, etc to help towards better traffic management.
Amit mentioned that we should also look towards adopting alternative means of movement such as bicycles, pooled movement of vehicles for reaching common destinations and Universities should encourage safe driving practices and hold regular awareness camps to sensitive public on road safety and management.
