59 bovine animals rescued, 3 smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, Apr 23: In major success, Udhampur Police today rescued 59 bovine animals, which were being smuggled to Kashmir Valley.
According to SSP Rajiv Pandey, a Police party, led by SHO Udhampur, Insp Vijay Singh Choudhary under the supervision of Dr Rohit Chadgal DySP Hqrs. Udhampur and Rajinder Singh Katoch, Addl SP Udhampur, laid a naka near Sangoor Chowk NHW and intercepted two groups of 55 bovine animals, which were taken on foot by the smugglers separately towards Kashmir without any valid permission.
All 55 bovine animals in total were rescued and accused smugglers namely Hamid Khan son of Ab Gani of Hartayan alongwith Mohd Mashboor son of Barkat Ali of Hartayan were arrested on the spot. However, their two associates fled away from the spot.
In this connection, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at PS Udhampur and further investigation is going on.
In another success, , same police party intercepted one Mahindra Bolero bearing registration number JK 14C -5946 on NHW near Jakhani Chowk, NHW Udhampur. During search , four bovine animals were found illegally loaded in this vehicle. All the four bovine animals were rescued and the accused driver, namely Gulam Rasool son of Mohd Ayub of Thalpad, Udhampur was arrested on the spot.
In this connection, another case under relevant sections of law was registered at PS Udhampur.
Worthwhile to mention here that Udhampur Police rescued 662 bovine animals in the last three and half month while 68 cases were registered and more than 100 accused smugglers were arrested during this period.
