SRINAGAR, Apr 26: Anti-Corruption Bureau today arrested Executive Engineer of Roads and Buildings Department for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 20,000 for release of payment of a contractor.

An official spokesman said that a complaint was lodged in Police Station Anti-Corruption Bureau Srinagar by a contractor alleging therein that he had approached the Executive Engineer concerned for release of payment of Rs 5,18,089 for the works executed by him in Bandipora area. However, the Executive Engineer demanded bribe of Rs 20,000 for releasing the payment of the contractor.
On this complaint, a case FIR No.08/2019 under Section 5(2) J&K Prevention of Corruption Act was registered and investigation taken up.
During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted and Executive Engineer R&B Division Bandipora namely, Ab Aziz Bhat was arrested while demanding and accepting the bribe money from the complainant.
