2 narcotic smugglers held with 5 kg poppy straw

SAMBA, Apr 28: Ghagwal police in district Samba today arrested two Punjab based narcotic smugglers and recovered over 5 kg poppy straw from them.
As per reports, a police party of Police Station, Ghagwal headed by Inspector Rajeev Kumar, SHO in close coordination with District Special Branch (DSB) under the supervision of Faisal Qureshi, Additional SP, Samba during vehicle checking at Naka NHW Tapyal, intercepted one truck bearing Registration No. PB06N-2709 which was coming from Jammu side towards Kathua.
During checking of the vehicle 5 Kg 200 gms poppy straw was recovered from the possession of two persons identified as Harvinder Singh, S/o Harbajan Singh, R/o Bhopur Tehsil Darangla, district Gurdaspur and Jarnail Chand, S/o Dewaan Chand, R/o Seuoor Khurd Tehsil Kalanoor, district Gurdaspur, Punjab. The duo was arrested and contraband item was also seized.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 43/2019 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act was registered at P/S Ghagwal and further investigation taken up. Police said that under the supervision of Additional SP, Samba, Faisal Qureshi and on the directives of SSP, Samba, Dr Koshal Sharma, nakas have been laid at various places in the district including on NH to curb the activities of narcotic and bovine smugglers which yielded tangible results.
