LEH, Apr 30: As voting day for Lok Sabha elections here is nearing, Returning Officer Leh Avny Lavasa stressed on proper distribution of EPICs and voter slips during the last crucial days before the polling.
RO Lavasa said this while chairing a meeting of the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) of Leh district, here today, to give final instructions regarding their duties before and on the poll day. Appreciating the hard work and efforts of the BLOs, she urged upon them to put extra effort and distribute the voter slips at the doorsteps of the voters.
“Voter Slip is not valid as a stand-alone identification document for voting and on the day of poll, voters must carry any of the 11 identification proofs if they do not have their EPIC Card,” she added and told the BLOs to set up a ‘help desk’ with the Electoral Roll on the polling day outside their respective polling stations for the convenient of the electors.
The BLOs were further instructed to visit their assigned polling stations for a final check of the assured minimum facility of electricity, toilet, furniture, ramp and water and were told to give their feedback to their respective Sector Magistrate by tomorrow.
A Local Level Committee of BLOs, ASHAs, and Anganwadi workers will assist the polling parties with their required logistics, said RO. She further instructed to make proper arrangements as per the Election Commission of India guidelines at the polling stations.
The RO said that BLOs of far flung areas with DSPT facility must make sure to keep it free on the poll day for election purpose communication and also assist any disable voters with the provided wheelchairs.
On the occasion, Election Duty Certificate (EDC) and BLO kits were distributed among BLOs. Heating expenses were also distributed among some of the BLOs assigned to high altitude areas like Relay-itching, Phobrang, Yurgo and others.
Additional District Development Commissioner Leh Moses Kunzang, Dy District Election Officer Leh Abdul Gaffar Zargar, District Programme Officer ICDS Leh Kunzes Angmo were also present during the meeting.
Meanwhile, three-day 3rd and final polling party-wise training to the Presiding Officers/Polling Personnel and Zonal/Sector magistrates in respect of 47-Nubra and 48-Leh Assembly constituency for conduct of Lok Sabha election, 2019 began under the supervision of Avny Lavasa at SSK, Leh today.
