JAMMU, May 2: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) today staged a protest to condemn the assault on an elected woman Sarpanch of R S Pura by the former MLA and NC leader, Gagan Bhagat and demanded stern action against him.
AJKPC also urged Governor Satya Pal Malik to order the Director General of Police (DGP) and ADGP (Security) for immediate withdrawal of Gagan Bhagat’s security, besides ordering immediate suspension of his PSOs who, in a video, abused and thrashed local people at a village in RS Pura.

“This is highly shameful and unfortunate that the former MLA assaulted and abused an elected woman Sarpanch, Seema Devi in full public view. It needs to be condemned by one and all. We appeal the Governor for slapping stringent charges against Gagan Bhagat who tried to harm her physically,” Anil Sharma, AJKPC state president, said while addressing Sarpanches and Panches of Jammu region.
AJKPC leader said the former MLA misused the security cover provided to him after his PSOs attacked the woman Sarpanch and local people who were accompanying her.
“We urge the Governor and the DGP for immediate withdrawal of security of Bhagat as there is every possibility that he will again misuse his security in near future. We also appeal the State Administration for ordering immediate suspension of PSOs who were involved in assault on local people and woman Sarpanch,” Sharma said.
He said former MLA might have forgotten that the woman Sarpanch was an elected grass-root level public representative and he was no more an MLA now.
On Tuesday, a video of Gagan Bhagat went viral where he was seen questioning the credentials of elected Sarpanch and entering into verbal brawl and physical assault. Bhagat tried to repeatedly thrash the woman Sarpanch and her supporters while hurling abuses on them.
“ We want justice from the State Administration. Gagan Bhagat has become habitual of abusing and thrashing people in public but the police never initiated any action against him. We hope that the Governor will seriously look into the matter and ensure stringent action against him,” the victim woman Sarpanch said.
