Treatment of cancer patients

JAMMU, May 6: Taking strong note of the reports that the cancer patients holding Gold Cards under Ayushman Bharat Scheme have been deprived of life saving drugs in Government Medical College (GMC), Hospital, Jammu, the State unit of BJP has urged upon the Governor Administration to hold an immediate inquiry into such mismanagement and punish those responsible for such crime against the humanity.
In an official handout, BJP State Spokesperson, Balbir Ram Rattan, said that as per the report, the GMC Hospital is playing with the precious lives of the people suffering from Cancer. He said that non-availability of life saving Drugs in GMC Hospital is a very serious matter and thorough inquiry needs to be conducted to fix the responsibility.
“To ensure the adequate availability of life saving drugs in the hospital is the prime duty of the Management and any lapse on its part should be taken as a serious offence,” Balbir said and added that there cannot be any compromise on the life of a person.
Balbir Ram Rattan said that Narendra Modi Government has launched Ayushman Health Scheme for the poor people and the beneficiary holding ‘Gold Card’ under this scheme has right to be treated free in the Hospital and whatever instrument, drug/medicine is needed, has to be procured by the hospital and provided to him.
The reported case under reference becomes more alarming since Cancer patients with Gold Card are deprived of much needed life saving drugs, he said.
The BJP spokesperson said that stern action should be taken for adopting casual approach towards the treatment of the people with such diseases which can prove to be fatal if not attended and treated on time with the required medicare.
Balbir said that such an approach of the GMC is also against the spirit of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, which is being availed by thousands of the patients in the country but unfortunately in Jammu and Kashmir some elements are interested in promoting self interest at the cost of the life of poor citizens.
