2-day national workshop on Bryology begins in JU

JAMMU, Feb 22: A two day national workshop on Bryology began here today in the Department of Botany, University of Jammu, with an aim to provide the basic training to the college teachers and research scholars in the diminishing field of Bryology (study of the Lilliputian Plants).
Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs (JU), inaugurated the workshop while Prof Geeta Sumbali, Head Department of Botany (JU) introduced the invited eminent experts of the workshop from the different parts of the country.
Prof A K Kaul, Dean Academic Affairs (BGSBU), presented the keynote address and introduced Bryophytes as the strange and pioneer living entities of land habitat.
Prof Anima Langer, Dean Life Sciences (JU) and Convener of the workshop, spoke on the importance of Bryophytes and need of Bryologists.
On the occasion, Department of Botany honored Dr. Tanvir Ahmed (BDO), as the pioneer researcher of Jammu University in the field of Bryophytes.
More than 60 participants from different Degree Colleges and Universities of State and outside the State got registered in the workshop. The eminent invited speakers of national and international repute include Dr S K Singh, BSI, Shillong; Dr D KSingh, BSI, Kolkata; Dr P L Uniyal, Delhi University, Dr D K Saxena, Bareilly; Dr V Nath from NBRI, Lucknow.
Among others Prof M C Sharma, Prof R N Gohil, Prof M K Dhar, Prof G S Tara, Prof Namrata Sharma, Prof Amarjeet Singh Soodan, O P Sharma Vidyarthi, Prof Seema Langer, Dr Arti Sharma, Dr Parvinder Kumar and Dr H C Dutt, were also present on the occasion.
Dr Veenu Kaul compered the inaugural ceremony and presented vote of thanks.
