GMC Jammu gets final recognition for 150 MBBS seats

JAMMU, May 16: In a milestone achievement, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu has been recognized for the award of MBBS degree granted by Jammu University against the increase take of 100 to 150 seats U/S 11(2) of the IMC Act, 1956.
It is worth mentioning that before this Government Medical College, Jammu was recognized for the intake of 100 MBBS seats and permitted for additional 50 seats. Now after the current notification, Medical Council of India vide endorsement No MCI-37(1)(Recog- 54)(UG)/2017-Med/109663 dated 06-05-2019 recognized GMC Jammu for 150 MBBS seats based on 5 year continuous yearly inspection of the institution and finally based on compliance verification report held on 08-04-2019.
Pertinent to mention here that when Dr Sunanda Raina took over as Principal of the Institution, there was a huge list of pending infrastructural deficiencies pointed by MCI haunting the institution but under the dynamic leadership of Dr Sunanda Raina, a team of various faculty members and officers/officials of this institution with the full hearted financial support from the Administrative Department from time to time, could meet all the deficiencies with regard to human resource, infrastructure and equipment and machinery within two years.
Expressing satisfaction on this milestone achievement of the Institution, Dr Sunanda said that this could become possible due to cooperation of all head of the departments, faculty members and residents in various inspections conducted by MCI.
She further said the Principal Secretary to Government, H&ME Department, J&K along with Director Finance and Planning wing of the Administrative Department remained instrumental in helping the institution to meet all deficiencies pointed time to time by Medical Council of India.
