Cong sabotaged Wazir Commission recommendations: Balbir

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, May 20: The Wazir Commission, set up in 70s by the Government, while pointing out disparity in distribution of resources for the three regions of the State of Jammu & Kashmir, had clearly recommended the creation of three, new districts in Jammu and one new district in Kashmir, but the recommendations were diluted by Ghulam Nabi Azad headed Government just to please Kashmir at the cost of Jammu region.
Terming it as one of the worst kind of discrimination with Jammu, BJP State spokesperson, Balbir Ram Rattan, said that complete silence and non-resistance from the Jammu-based leaders of Congress and NC on the issue encouraged Ghulam Nabi Azad to tinker with the original recommendations and thus nullify the whole exercise of the Wazir Commission.
Balbir said that it was perhaps for the first time in the history of J&K that a Commission set up by the Government itself did endorse the discrimination with Jammu and concluded that creation of more districts would be the solution to equitable development of the region with focus on ending disparity in matters of distribution of resources for every region of the State.
The State spokesperson said that adding three more districts as against recommended just one district in Kashmir and giving just one more district in addition to the recommended three districts for Jammu, themselves smell foul and reflects anti-Jammu, pro-Kashmir mindset of the then Congress leadership.
“Not only State but the Central leadership of the Congress is equally responsible for such a discrimination with Jammu region”, Balbir said and added that after formation of BJP Government at the Centre and sharing power in the State for a short term, the things changed with Jammu region getting due care and share in every matter at every level, same being visible on the ground.
Balbir said that the Ladakh region too remained neglected and discriminated during the Governments of Congress and NC and that the BJP always stood for equal opportunities; share in development and welfare of the people of Ladakh.
